After dropping us off on the shores of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, our guide slowly rowed away.

As a Vietnam Veteran, I have always found a spiritual kinship with the people of Vietnam. This is the culture that shaped my values on life during my combat duties in 1970.

Most Americans still see Vietnam through the media lens of 1969: we still connect their culture to that portrayal of them only as part of our Vietnam War.

Since 1998, I have returned to Vietnam annually. These images are from my themed work "Faces of Vietnam" and is my visual testament to the fact that the identity of the Vietnamese culture is no longer connected to a conflict. They were and are beautiful, and so are we.
